About Class Types

Foundations

Level: I/II

An excellent Foundation is the key to all pilates technique, and to build it we must first understand how to align and support the 3 natural curves of the spine, “neutral spine”.  This anchor system is the Foundation upon which all the other exercises are built.  In this class you can expect a full body, strength balancing experience with strong, precise movements that link the mind, body and breath.  Start here and revisit often as you progress.  This is not an easy class, but it moves at a slower pace with more room for teaching.  An SBP favorite!

Flow Dynamics

Level:  II/III

Most intermediate to advanced students will fall into this category. You've learned to hold a neutral spine in any position, you can find and hold plank on the reformer, and you flow easily between exercises at an accelerated pace.  We will work toward your upper limits in this class, toning and sculpting in all the right places, and learning to trust the unique rhythm of our breath and movement patterns.

Advanced Technique

Level III

If you’ve spent time developing your Foundation and Flow practice, you are ready for Advanced Technique.  We move quickly, both mentally and physically, so this class is not for the novice!  There is a heavy focus on concentration and control as we progress through advanced choreography and classical Level 3 Pilates exercises.  We strive to not just complete the work, but embody the Pilates method as individuals with complete coordination of mind, body and breath.

+Cardio

Level II/III+

If you've mastered Level II/III reformer flows and are ready to spice it up, this is the class for you!  We use the jumpboard and fast-paced flows to stay in the Cardio Zone for the duration of the class.  This higher intensity shakes up your metabolism, burns more calories, and has a high afterburn effect, which means the calories keep burning after you are done exercising.  We focus on technique as you transition into this faster pace so you have the stability and endurance to do so correctly. This is an excellent bridge to the Burnout class, or for most normal humans, to just stay here.

Burnout

Level III+

This is a true Burnout class, taxing each muscle group to exhaustion.  Be ready for intensity and quick transitions. Bring water. This class is NOT for you until you have mastered technique in all other classes at Sunset Beach Pilates.  We recommend balancing this practice with other class types at a ratio that suits you.

Private Semi-Private Instruction
